ABOUT ESGCT
activities
The ESGCT organises many activities for its members throughout the year in a bid to share information and technological advances, promote education and facilitate collaboration. The annual European conference is by far the largest in Europe and in 2024 it celebrated its 31st year. The society also runs a Spring School for advance lecture courses, and an annual Academy aimed at supporting students and early career researchers.
HISTORY
ESGCT was founded in January 1992 as the European Working Group on Human Gene Transfer and Therapy (EWGT). The Society was renamed the European Society of Gene Therapy (ESGT) in 1998. In 2007, the Society's name was changed again to ESGCT to reflect that the fields of gene and cell therapy cannot be separated from one another. In 2025 ESGCT will celebrate its 32nd European Annual Congress.
NATIONAL SOCIETIES
The European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy has as its objective the promotion of science and research. We achieve this in part through scientific and educational activities, in particular through measures aimed at the promotion and the exchange of information and ideas with regard to gene therapy, cell therapy, genetic vaccination, the encouragement of research fields and clinical applications.
